Talking Bricks

It might seem that every other post of the past few weeks has contained a reference to Dana Smith and/or Toby Weiss. And it could be that we’re guilty of creative crushes of exactly that kind. With all that said, we give Dana a day off and highlight some comments by Saint Louis uber-blogger Toby Weiss, captured recently while speaking to an upcoming “Saint Louis brick film” lensed by our own art director Bill Streeter.

So, here’s the deal. Bill, alongside managing producer Jeannette Hoss and director of photography Virginia Lee Hunter, have started to compile interviews with a number of folks who have the right background to discuss our town’s brick-filled history. The storyline will emerge as the film picks up additional interviews and research, but the sense here is that this’ll be the definitive look at Saint Louis’ signature architectural chip.

As the story comes together, Streeter and company are adding some raw video to the film’s site. Here, we fish into the Vimeo sharing system for a clip that does a good job of talking about the connection between bloggers and preservation in contemporary Saint Louis.
