Fran Landesman on the Web
By Thomas Crone
A year-and-change back, I was able to interview the legendary Fran Landesman, during her stint of cabaret-style shows at the Gaslight Theatre of the CWE. It was an awesome opportunity to catch up with the Gaslight Square legend. She’s done plenty since leaving Saint Louis a few decades back, but being the STL nostalgia-holics that we are, we’ll still claim the expat as one of our own.
For reasons not completely evident to me, her name’s been popping up in e-mails to me over the past few weeks, which send me to the usual web hubs for updates on her life and times. While at the popular video-sharing website YouTube.com, I came across a couple clips of Landesman, including one by the P-D’s Eddie Roth. Hadn’t seen that one before and it’s a nice capture of her appearance here in 2008.
There’s also a clip from Living St. Louis, done at the same time. The crew caught the same show that I did for this fun clip.
There’s also a trailer for the wonderful documentary, “Almost a Legend,” which will hopefully get another screening in Saint Louis, after playing SLIFF last fall.
While we don’t normally cover the STL diaspora here, there’s plenty of local history and charm in the above. Happy viewing.
